11.1 Learning Objectives

After completing this lab, you should be able to

• Produce and/or identify appropriate effect sizes in R Commander and SPSS
• Interpret effect sizes
• Report the effect sizes in APA style

Before you begin, make sure you understand the following concepts from the lecture portion of the course

• Appropriate effect sizes for each type of analysis we have covered so far in the lab
• The advantages of including effect sizes in your interpretation and reporting of findings

This lab will require you to load data into R Commander and SPSS. You can review this skill in the videos on R Commander basics (beginning at 3:32) and SPSS basics (beginning at 0:48).

It will also draw on the following analyses conducted in previous labs:

• One-sample t tests
• Independent samples t tests
• Paired samples t tests
• Correlation

For each analysis, we will be using the same dataset as we did in the relevant previous lab.
