6.8 Assignment

Imagine you are a researcher who is interested in physical activity among school-aged children. Several years ago, your neighbourhood installed more playgrounds and children’s play areas in an effort to improve children’s physical activity. You know that before this project, the average child in your neighbourhood got 45 min of physical activity per day. You hypothesize that the average amount of physical activity is now higher than 45 min.

To test this hypothesis, you conduct a survey of 174 school-age (ages 6-10) children in your neighbourhood. You record their age, sex, and physical activity in minutes per day.

Download your dataset from Canvas in the folder for this lab. Your dataset is labelled with your name. It is important that you download only your data, since it is different from other students’ data.

Conduct a one-sample t test to test your hypothesis. Report the results of this t test in the quiz on Canvas.

As a reminder, you must complete this assignment independently, with no assistance from your classmates.
