10.5 Reporting Correlation Results in APA Style

  1. Identify the two variables in your correlation analysis.

  1. State whether the correlation is statistically significant. If the correlation is significant, state the direction of the relationship.

  1. Provide the degrees of freedom for the correlation test. Note that SPSS does not provide the degrees of freedom. If you are using SPSS, you can calculate the degrees of freedom by hand, by subtracting 2 from the number of complete pairs of observations.

  1. Report the Pearson’s r correlation coefficient.

  1. Report the p value.
